On April 18, 2024, the Chinese Entrepreneurs Association invited Professor Freddy Boey to engage in discussions regarding the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong.

Chairman Dr Gary Cheng first introduced Professor Freddy Boey, who assumed the role of President of City University of Hong Kong in May 2023.  He previously served as the Executive Vice President of the National University of Singapore and the Vice President of Student Affairs at Nanyang Technological University. President Boey is also an inventor with over 100 original patents to his name.

President Boey is dedicated to promoting the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong. He has repeatedly emphasized the need for a robust innovation ecosystem in Hong Kong, believing that deep-tech startups can create new high-paying, specialized positions that stimulate the growth of related high-tech industries, thereby generating multiplier effects. Dr Gary Cheng, as the Academy Advisor of the CityU Academy of Innovation, has provided valuable advice to the college in terms of innovation and nurturing scientific and technological entrepreneurship, and he also highly commends President Boey’s effort.
